What Is Bloodwork?

Bloodwork is a general term for medical tests that are done using a sample of your blood. It’s a common way for doctors to assess your overall health, screen for illnesses, and monitor medical conditions. By analyzing your blood, doctors can measure things like:

  • Blood cell counts – Red and white blood cells, platelets (e.g., Complete Blood Count or CBC)
  • Blood chemistry – Sugar, electrolytes, kidney and liver enzyme levels (e.g., Basic or Comprehensive Metabolic Panel)
  • Hormones – Thyroid, testosterone, estrogen levels, and more
  • Nutrients – Vitamins, minerals, cholesterol, and triglycerides
  • Markers of disease – Inflammation, infections, or other disease indicators

In short, bloodwork gives a “snapshot” of how your body is working and can help identify medical problems early, guide treatment decisions, or confirm that treatments are working well.

Benefits of Bloodwork

  • Take a proactive approach and analyze how your exercise regimen, diet, sleep, and emotional health are contributing to your longevity.
  • Detect early signs of disease – Conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, anemia, thyroid disorders, and infections can show up in blood tests before symptoms appear.
  • Monitor chronic conditions – If you have an ongoing health issue (e.g., high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease), regular bloodwork helps track how well treatments are working.
  • Assess organ function – Blood tests provide insights into how your liver, kidneys, thyroid, and heart are functioning.
  • Check nutritional status – They can reveal deficiencies in vitamins and minerals (like iron, B12, or vitamin D).

We aren’t a primary care office, and patients will have to get their blood pressure medications and chronic care elsewhere. Bloodwork is primarily for screening and monitoring.
